YWAM Costa Rica (Heredia, San Jose and Nicoya) staff and student retreat in Guanacaste December 2010.
This past summer God sent 6 short term teams here to Guanacaste. Most of them participated in our Bible Distribution project, but they also worked with youth, local churches and schools. In the beginning of the summer it looked like we weren’t going to have any summer volunteers to help us with the work load, but God sent the right people at the right time and we had really special summer. God spoke to most of us personally in many unexpected ways and it was so good to see young people willing to take steps of obedience. Now several of our summer volunteers are doing or getting ready to do a Discipleship Training School in Costa Rica, Mexico, US and Africa!
The Bible Distribution project is moving forward! Thank you to many of you who have been part of it by donating Bibles or coming here to help us distribute. We have done 5000 out of 97 000. There is so many stories of God moving when we go house to house and give Bibles, are willing to listen to people, pray for them and love them with God’s love. Just last week we distributed over 300 Bibles in a town called San Joaquin and 22 people decided to give their lives to Christ. It wasn’t without a price, though. One girl was praying for a lady and when she opened her eyes there was a poisonous snake in front of her feet!
Next week we are meeting with representative of the International Bible Society and national YWAM leaders to work a plan to cover all Costa Rica with Bibles and initiate distribution in other Central American countries. In December we will have an opportunity to present our Bible Distribution project internationally at a YWAM conference in Kona,Hawaii.
We feel God has given us the confirmation we have been waiting for to go ahead and try to purchase the property we have been renting for the ministry for the past 5 years. We believe this is where God wants YWAM Guanacaste to be located and are moving forward to start raising $70,000 we need for buying it. We are looking for an architect who could help us to come up with a plan and drawings for future changes and use of the property. Please keep this in your prayers!
I, (Salla) started a group for 17 pregnant teenagers and young mothers in September. The girls come from surrounding rural villages of Nicoya and have great needs at every level. We will be working with them once a week for the next 9 months in areas of family, health, education and micro business training. We are working the course with local health authorities and Peace Corps, so it is not a Christian program officially but there will be plenty of opportunities to share Jesus with the girls. For this course we are looking for donations of baby clothes, supplies, a crib and financial support for covering the lunches every week.
As a family it has been really good to have few months of normal family life after the busy summer with teams. We all enjoy the people and teams when they come, but we also enjoy the down time. We took a short family trip to the Arenal volcano in September. After that we have just been living a normal life, running the ministry but also spending more time at home and as a family. We have been able to make a basketball court for Troy and added a loft to our living room space. The kids are finishing their school year end of this month. Troy has become a dedicated basketball player and Julia is starting a new hobby taking taekwondo classes. Nic Markus is just starting to socialize, learning to play with kids in the neighborhood and going to preschool once a week.
This month we are preparing another cowboy outreach for December, several Christmas Parties for children and working on logistics of the Bible Project.
Thank you so much for your support! We really appreciate each one of you that faithfully remember us and our ministry in your prayers and by supporting financially!
We want to invite you to join the ministry page in facebook at YWAM Guanacaste, Costa Rica to read more about what we are doing here.
